An engine is the device that drives a car. Its role is to make the fuel burn and then drive the car through the chassis of the drive. The engines are mainly gasoline and diesel engines.

Reciprocating piston internal combustion engines are widely used in modern automobiles. It is produced by the pressure of combustible gas in the cylinder combustion expansion, driving the piston movement and the crankshaft rotation through the connecting rod to the external output power. It mainly includes two main mechanisms and five systems, which are crank linkage mechanism, gas mechanism, fuel supply system, ignition system (gasoline engine), starting system, cooling system and lubrication system.

The ignition mode of diesel engine is combustion type, so there is no ignition system.

1. The crank connecting rod mechanism is composed of cylinder block, piston ring, connecting rod, crankshaft and flywheel. The upper part of the cylinder is the cylinder and the lower part is the crankcase. The piston is in the cylinder. Piston rings are used to fill the gap between the cylinder and the piston, preventing gas from leaking from the cylinder to the crankcase. The crankshaft is mounted in the crankcase.

The flywheel is fixed at the back end of the crankshaft and extends outside the engine block, responsible for the external output power. Connecting rods are used to connect pistons and crankshafts to transmit power and motion between them. A car engine is a multi-cylinder engine with the same number of pistons and connecting rods as the number of cylinders, but only one crankshaft.

2. The air distribution mechanism is mainly composed of a camshaft, a valve and a valve actuator. Each cylinder has an intake valve and an exhaust valve, which is located at the intake and exhaust ports and is responsible for sealing and opening the intake pipe.

The camshaft is driven by a timing gear or toothed belt, by a crankshaft and a valve assembly component that rotates, timing, opens the valve, fills the cylinder with fresh liquid or burns it from the cylinder.

3. Gasoline engine fuel supply system is mainly composed of air filter, carburetor (or fuel injection device), intake pipe, exhaust pipe, muffler, gasoline pump, gasoline tank.

The main function is to atomize gasoline, evaporate and mix air into different concentrations of combustible mixtures for combustion. At the same time, the exhaust cylinder burns. The mixture in the cylinder is controlled by the driver through the accelerator pedal to meet the different load requirements of the engine.

4. Diesel fuel supply system is mainly composed of air filter, intake pipe, exhaust pipe, muffler, diesel tank, oil pump, injector and so on. The air passes through the air filter and intake pipe in the cylinder. The diesel oil in the diesel tank is pumped out of the pump and into the fuel injection pump.

After the injection pump is pressurized, it is injected directly into the combustion chamber of the cylinder through the atomizer. Diesel oil vaporizes in the combustion chamber. Exhaust gas is discharged from the exhaust pipe by the exhaust pipe. Depending on the size of the engine load, the driver controls the amount of diesel injected into the cylinder each time.

5. The ignition system of gasoline engine is unique, which consists of battery, ignition switch, distributor assembly, ignition coil, high voltage line and spark plug. The spark plug is located in the cylinder combustion chamber.

The main function of the system is to make the spark plug generate an electric spark in time and ignite the combustible mixture in the cylinder to do work. The combustion mode of diesel engine is spontaneous combustion (ignition), without ignition system.

6. Cooling lubrication system The cooling lubrication system is responsible for protecting the normal operation of the engine and making the service life of the engine long. The cooling system consists of a pump, radiator, fan, water jacket and thermostat, which is responsible for the normal operating temperature of the engine.

The lubrication system is composed of oil pump, oil filter, main oil tank and oil tank, which can be lubricated, cooled, cleaned and sealed.

Seven. The starting system is mainly composed of a battery, starting control and transmission mechanism and a starting motor (motor). It is used to start the engine and put it into operation.
